To all Barnes minis, juniors & colts (parents),
We hope you have all enjoyed a great Christmas break and are keeping healthy in these difficult times!
In the light of the latest Covid regulations and announcements, we would like to update you on our plans for Barnes youth rugby this weekend and for the near term.
As of now, there has been no change in the rules permitting organised Under 18 outdoor sports in a tier 4 area, including in areas such as Barnes and local boroughs where new restrictions on primary school opening will now apply at the start of term. A specific exception allowing sports for children still applies in the regulations, presumably in recognition of the benefits from outdoor activities at this time, provided of course that various risk mitigations are strictly adhered to. Under Tier 4 regulations, it appears that parent spectators are not permitted to remain on site during sports activities unless specifically required for supervision (coaching) or individual safeguarding purposes, which creates additional issues such as formal check in and check out of players, especially in the minis section.
But we recognise that the latest changes will create additional concern and questions across age groups, and the high prevalence of Covid locally means that keeping to the distancing and hygiene rules is even more important. There is certainly no pressure on anyone, players or coaches, to attend.
Considering the above, we have taken the decisions that:
i) Juniors and colts rugby (subject to any specific age group advice) WILL go ahead this coming Sunday 3rd January though we will not include contact rugby activity, with players expected to adhere strictly to the Covid risk mitigations through distancing and hygiene etc;
ii) Minis rugby will NOT go ahead for all age groups except Under 11 this Saturday, while we work through further protocols to manage to ensure that the younger children strictly maintain distancing before and after the rugby activity and with the limitations on parent spectators – procedures which we trust the older children can more readily keep to at all times. We will look to restart minis age groups progressively when we can, starting with the older minis. To that end, we will will be in touch separately with Under 11s regarding a touch rugby only session this coming weekend.
For all those who are playing, our established risk mitigations remain strictly in force to keep everyone safe. Please make sure your children are aware of and you / they continue to:
- Not attend if there is any question of having current covid symptoms;
- Complete pre training health checks and attendance ( a must for for track and trace) for each session, on teamsnap;
- Remain socially distant before and after training and in breaks from rugby; and
- Comply with all hygiene measures including sanitising hands every 15 minutes, not sharing clothing, snacks or water bottles etc;
- Report any positive Covid-19 tests or symptoms occurring with 48 hours of attending training, to your age group manager.
For all the groups playing this weekend, parents should please not remain on site as spectators during training; if you are coming to drop off and / or collect your child, you will need to leave during training.
If at any time you have concerns on the rugby activity, please raise then with your respective age group manager or section captain.
We will update you as and when there are further changes or new guidance.
