Return to Rugby on 3rd/4th April !

We are excited that Barnes youth rugby will be re-starting after lockdown on the weekend of 3rd /4th April. Minis will be training on the normal pitches at BEST from 9:30am Saturday 3rd April and juniors, colts and junior girls on Sunday 4th April at Barn Elms, as normal.

The remainder of the season will then run each weekend up to and including 1st/2nd May, when we will switch to some summer activities for certain age groups.

Rugby activities will be in accordance with the RFU Road Map, at Stage D1. This means that contact rugby is not permitted in game situations, although limited contact training (with no scrums, mauls or upright tackles) is allowed. Matches will be played in touch or Ready4Rugby format, as in the autumn. Under 8s and below will be able to play Tag rugby. It is expected that training will move to Stage D2 on the Road Map from 26th April, permitting contact matches with adapted laws (no scrums or mauls).

While Spectators are generally not presently permitted to attend sports events, each player is allowed to have one parent or carer attending for safeguarding purposes – but they must maintain social distancing. We ask that parents please respect the spirit in which grassroots sport has been able to return, and do not gather socially on the  side-lines. To this end, for the older minis, Under 9 and above, we are Ok for you to leave your child under coaches’ supervision during training provided you clearly check them in and out with the team manager, so that we know who is not accompanied by an adult. For younger minis we will assume an adult is present pitchside, as normal.

It is important that when training resumes we all adhere to the COVID risk mitigations that we all got used to in the autumn, including:

  • Not coming to training if showing any COVID-a9 symptoms, or you or your household members are required to self-isolate or quarantine;
  • Regular sanitising of hands and equipment;
  • Social distancing before, after training and during breaks;
  • Pre training completion of your health check and attendance  (for track & race) on Teamsnap;
  • Reporting of any positive tests or onset of symptoms within 48 hours after training.

Further details, including our risk assessment, are available on the COVID-19 measures page of this site.

Any questions, please contact your age group head coach or team manager.
